Isn’t it time…to Take a Walk!

It was a cool rainy mist night in Florida last night for a change and the weather continued with cold rainy weather this Easter Day. I went for a walk. I hadn’t done that for awhile. Work and life got in the way.

But… I’m reminded how much I needed the escape and walk. Maybe you do too!

Walking and being outside with Mother 🍃 Earth 🌎 is so important even more these days.

Brighten your day in a healthy way. It doesn’t have to be long. Just 10 minutes helps. Nature offers us so much! A visual explosion of flowers and green. My palm trees outside my home or studio bring me so much joy.

Oh the beauty of fresh air! Taking a few deep breaths. Hold and release.

They say it can really lift our spirits and mood. I so agree! It makes me happy and my lungs happy too.

Reflecting and pausing to hear the happy birds chirping a tune. Hearing the leaves 🍃 in the wind. Smelling the wild flowers along the way. Even if it’s raining it can be a beautiful day.

I read where listening to just three minutes of the cheerful songs 🎶 of the birds in the daytime can stimulate the brains frontal lobe and increases the production of energizing beta waves. What’s not to love about that?

I have also read taking a short walk before you call it a night and get ready to wind down and go to bed… helps our bodies produce melatonin. Thus hopefully get a better nights sleep.

You don’t need to necessarily go to a park to walk. Your neighborhood will do.

You’ll more likely feel better and if you’re feeling a bit blue it will help you too. I know it’s hard to smile these days with so much coming at us in the news and in the world. But self-care needs to be at the top of your To Do list.

If you can’t get outdoors because of health reasons or you had to work today. Think that you are outside. Pretend you’re enjoying and walking outdoors. Your mind is a powerful tool.

I hope you have a fabulous and delicious day!

Life happens!

Oh how I have missed YOU and blogging too! I know I’ve been “missing in action”. It is so unlike me not to post as I love sharing all things beauty, travel and foodie with you.

I have been traveling ✈️ for work and play. Puerto Rico, California, Palm Beach 🏝 Florida. Oh what glorious fun! When I work I always fit in time to enjoy a city and add a day or two of adventure and fun!

But with travel and a busy schedule comes a chance of getting a cold or worse. So I started to get symptoms of a cold. I went to the doctor right away to nip it! They gave me cough medicine and antibiotics. It’s wasn’t fun! But it wasn’t Covid or the flu that is going around.

After that came an unexpected late in the season hurricane in 🌴Florida! All whirling around while I was sick in bed.

I had to get back to work as soon as I could for Black Friday and Shop Small Saturday days at my beauty bungalow. So I did but then who knew? I’d be bit by three angry WASPS 🐝 three different days. My leg swelled like a killer whale. I was limping with laryngitis too as the upper respiratory infection wasn’t done with me too!

My husband loved that part! All I could do was squeak. So tough!

So you see I’ve really been through hell and back. I’m tired from all the medications and trying to work and keep it all together. I have to take care of my clients and their holiday shopping needs with my Beauty Elves at my business.

I do want to share some beauty & foodie recipes with you but I’ve got to work. I have not even begun Christmas & Chanukah shopping yet. How about you? Are you in a holidaze and going crazy right now too?

If you are… I hear you and am right there with you! Hang in there.

Tan,Brown,or Black Girls and the SUN

As a beauty professional living in sunny 🌞 Florida I want to  remind you if you’ve got dark skin you may be tempted to skip the sunscreen. But please don’t!

Brown, tan or black girls get sunburn too You can still develop skin cancer as UV rays can give you a sunburn, saggy skin, premature wrinkles and dark spots.

Also did you know you can get skin cancer on your scalp too? Stay protected.

For a beautiful even toned complexion you need to wear a sunscreen!

SPF 15 or higher and with UVA and UVB protection no matter what shade of brown you are. And no matter where you are at an outside cafe or on the beach. Wear it and a lip balm too.

Anti-Aging ☕️ Coffee?

Rich in anti-oxidants and increases serotonin in the brain. This delicious recipe comes from esthetician and massage therapist Summer Perry. She owns Summer Skin Institute in St Augustine Florida.

In a coffee pot with a brewer basket, combine the following:

1/2 tsp.of cinnamon

1 tsp. of Hershey’s Unsweetened cocoa powder.

After coffee is brewed, pour over ice

Next add…

1/4 cup of skim milk 🥛

1/4 tsp of vanilla

2 tbsp. of light whipped cream

Sprinkle with additional cinnamon and a dash of nutmeg.

Oh so yum! 😋

I have tried this warm or iced and I love ❤️ its benefits and taste. So do my clients.

I hope you will try this recipe and enjoy it too! clear drinking glass filled with coffee

This used to be ME (minus THE tattoo) sunbathing 😎 in the summers in N.Y.C. Then I moved to Florida and sunbathed a bit more too.

UNTIL I got smarter. Sun smart to be exact.

I got squamous cell carcinoma and it wasn’t very beautiful or golden. I found a little brown raised spot ON my breast not in my breast. The Dr told me it isn’t very common. But common or rare I needed it gone.

I was terrified. Thousands of dollars $$$ in Drs. visits and a special surgery called Mohs to remove it at Mayo Clinic. It was a day I decided to never sunbathe again.

Rose 🌹 Petal Steamer

I love to whip up things in my beauty kitchen! One of my favorites especially this time of year is a facial steam. Not only do I like to use a humidifier in the treatment room I also love to whip this up.

What you will need is:

2 quarts of distilled water

1/2 cup of of fresh rose petals

Boil water. Add the flower petals. Allow it to cool a bit. Place towel over your clients head. Have her lean in towards the steamy brew. Do this for at least 4 minutes. 5 is even better. Great for the skin and the nasal passages too.

If your client is not into the scent of roses. Try another herb 🌿 or flower like fresh mint.

I find this so relaxing and refreshing. After a long day of doing facials and other services you will too!
